'No politics' involved in Burj Hammoud fracas

BEIRUT: Supporters of the Tashnag party and others from the Amal
Movement and Hezbollah clashed late Thursday during an incident that
saw a man open fire in the Beirut suburb of Burj Hammoud. Security
sources told The Daily Star Friday that the clash took place shortly
after midnight near a Lebanese Red Cross center in Burj Hammoud. No
casualties were reported. The sources said the windows of three cars
were shattered during the brief clash. According to the Central News
Agency, a group of men attacked a convoy of cars returning from a
visit to the Burj Hammoud cemetery to honor Armenian martyrs. Tashnag
Party leader Hovig Mekhitarian downplayed the incident and said the
clash was a result of a personal dispute and that no political motives
were involved. But Mekhitarian also said that calm returned to the
area after the party made several contacts with Hezbollah and Amal
    Movement officials.
