Vahan Hovhannisyan, a member of Armenia's newly elected parliament
of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D),
believes the new parliament will prove a "bog."
He got the impression from the first plenary session of Armenia's
new parliament on Thursday.
"If the majority feels comfortable in this situation, it is up to
them. I do not think, however, that this parliament will be of any
benefit to the country," he told Tert.am.
The ARF-D group's activities in Armenia's former parliament set an
example of "what an opposition should be."
ARF-D members have not been nominated to the parliamentary committees.
As to whether the ARF-D group will turn into "stronger opposition,"
Hovhannisyan said: "We are an opposition party. Opposition will
be opposition."
The ARF-D has always "called a spade a spade."
Three opposition forces are represented in Armenia's new parliament
- the ARF-D, Heritage and Armenian National Congress (ANC). As to
which of the two the ARF-D intends to cooperate with in parliament,
Hovhannisyan said: "This is parliament, and you can find like-minded
persons or groups. However, it cannot lead to an alliance."
