ARMENIAN CHURCH IN TURKEY'S KAYSERI STILL RECEIVES PILGRIMS (PHOTOS)

KAYSERI. - The Cappadocian city of Caesarea-today's Kayseri,
Turkey-still is one of the key pilgrimage sites for Istanbul Armenians,
because the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church-which was
built in 1191-is located there (PHOTOS).
And a group of Armenian and Turkish journalists taking part in the
"Support to Armenia-Turkey Rapprochement" Project of the Eurasia
Partnership Foundation visited this church, which is Kayseri's oldest
Apostolic Armenian church.
The journalists were welcomed by Istanbul Armenian Garabet Stepanyan,
who voluntarily takes care of the Church, Armenian News-NEWS.am
reporter informed from Kayseri.
Stepanyan noted that Istanbul-Armenian pilgrims visit the Church
twice a year and attend the Holy Mass.
"Four Armenians have remained in Kayseri. Foreigners and heirs of
those Armenians who had left Kayseri also visit the Church," he said.
To note, the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church of Kayseri
was last restored between 2008 and 2009; it was consecrated on November
7, 2009, and the first mass was celebrated on the next day.
