8TH ARAM KHACHATURIAN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION TO TAKE PLACE IN YEREVAN JUNE 6-13

The 8th Aram Khachaturian International Competition will be held in
Yerevan from June 6 to 13. This year it will be open for "violin"
specialty.
Organizers of the competition are RA Ministry of Culture, the "Aram
Khachaturian-Competition" Cultural Foundation and Yerevan State
Conservatory after Komitas. The competition is held under the high
auspices of First Lady Rita Sargsyan, who is honorary president of
the Board of Trustees.
The geography of participants is very wide; the event will bring
together participants from about 20 countries, including Russia,
Kazakhstan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, China, Korea,
Colombia, Italy, Spain, USA, Japan, UK, and France.
The Organizing Committee of the Aram Khachaturian International
Competition determined the following prizes for the winners:
First prize - 15,000 U.S. dollars and a laureate diploma Second prize
- 10,000 U.S. dollars and a laureate diploma Third Prize - 5000
U.S. dollars and a laureate diploma Each of the non-prize-winning
finalists will receive a 2,000 U.S.
dollars grant and a diploma.
A number of honored guests will arrive in Yerevan within the framework
of the competition. Rector of the Moscow State Conservatory after
Tchaykovski Alexander Sokolov has already arrived in Armenia and has
signed a memorandum of cooperation with the rector of the Yerevan
State Conservatory after Komitas.
"Of course, this competition is special and it is connected with
one name, which is dear to all of us. Aram Khachaturian belongs to
the whole world, but there are points on the earth, where his name
is especially dear. First of all, it is Armenia. But Russia is also
among them. Our participation on this competition is traditional and
logical, and I'm confident that the agreement signed between the two
Conservatories will further reinforce and expand our cooperation,"
Alexander Sokolov said.
The first round of the competition will be held at the Komitas
Chamber Music Hall on June 7-8. The second round will take place at
Aram Khachaturian House-museum on June 10. The thirst and final round
will be held at Aram Khachaturin Concert Hall on June 12.
The award ceremony and the gala concert will be held at Aram
Khachaturian Concert Hall on June 13.
