The Armenian national team will need to work harder to keep the
positive momentum that it gained in the last qualifying season,
    according to coach Vardan Minasyan.

"We need to do a lot. What we did last year will not be enough in the
next qualifying cycle. We won't be successful unless we double and
triple our efforts," said Minasyan at a press conference on Monday
on the eve of his side's friendly game against Kazakhstan in Yerevan.

The match (kickoff at 8:00 pm today) is part of Armenia's preparations
for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament commencing in autumn.

In the Euro-2012 qualifying tournament a reenergized Armenia provided
a sensation by beating some of the group favorites and unexpectedly
finishing just off the playoff spot. In 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying
Armenia are starting on September 7 with an away fixture against
Malta followed by a highly anticipated match against Italy in Yerevan
on October 12. The other rivals of the Minasyan side in Group B are
Denmark, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

Ahead of the Kazakhstan friendly Minasyan again spoke of planned
experiments with some of the players' positions and tactical schemes.

Such tactical changes in the May 31 friendly against Greece did not
appear to have improved the team performance as Armenia lost 0-1,
also conceding two penalties that were eventually saved by veteran
    goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky.

Berezovsky, 37, won't play in tonight's friendly following surgery
on his foot that requires a 10-day recovery period. Gevorg Kasparov
is expected to take charge between the sticks for Armenia.

Another key Armenia player Aras Ozbiliz is now in Yerevan, training
with the team, but won't be playing against Kazakhstan. The 22-year-old
Ajax Amsterdam man is recovering from an injury he received more than
two months ago. Coach Minasyan said there is no need to rush things
    at this stage.
