President Serzh Sargsyan arrived in Japan today for an official visit.
In the city of Sendai President Sargsyan visited the Yuriage Shrine
at Hiyoriyama to pay tribute to the memory of tornado victims.
Serzh Sargsyan familiarized with the works done towards elimination
of consequences of the tsunami and met with residents of the community
of temporary dwellings.
Serzh Sargsyan noted that Armenia was shocked to hear about the
earthquake that hit Japan a year ago. "A requiem service was offered
at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church of Yerevan. The prayers of
thousands of Armenians joined the prayer of the Catholicos of All
Armenians," the President said.
"We understand the whole heaviness of that disaster. You have lost
many relatives and friends, and I bow my head before their memory,"
President Sargsyan said.
According to the President, the Armenian people have not forgotten
the assistance and warm attitude of friendly Japan, when Armenia was
passing through great difficulties in 1988, when a massive earthquake
struck the country.
"The people of Japan will come out of this disaster even stronger. I
want everyone to have a shelter, I want your families to be filled
with joy and peace," Serzh Sargsyan said.
In Sendai President Sargsyan was briefed on the reconstruction
works carried out at the airport that was destroyed as a result of
the tsunami.
President Serzh Sargsyan left Sendai for Tokyo, where he will have
meetings with the leadership of the country on June 6.
