THE RESETTING OF GARNI OBSERVATORY WILL GIVE OPPORTUNITY TO PREDICT STRONG EARTHQUAKES

YEREVAN, JUNE 6, ARMENPRESS: Minister of emergency situations
of Armenia Armen Yeritzyan on June 6 will visit Garni geophysical
observatory to get acquainted with the situation in place. Armenpress
was informed from ministry of emergency situations that the perspective
programs of resetting and developing the observatory will be discusses.
The resetting of the observatory will give opportunity to estimate
the condition of surface of Armenian territory with the help of
new and more reliable observations, the mechanisms of earthquakes'
occurrence, to determine the symptoms of earthquakes, estimate the
current seismic danger and to predict strong earthquakes.
The geophysical observatory of Garni is a unique research station in
the world which is provided for serious geophysical, seismological
researches and has been built on special project which gives
the opportunity to implement measurements and registrations in
unprecedented conditions for predicting earthquakes.
The station of global seismic network' IRIS system was installed in
observatory in 1991. It registers all average and string earthquakes
in the world.
