COURT OF PROTEST: ATTORNEYS ON ONE-DAY STRIKE OVER "ARBITRARINESS"

More than 100 Armenian attorneys will not work today, to express
their discontent with the "double standards" and "arbitrariness"
of the Court of Appeal. The striking attorneys are not happy the
appeals court does not gives grounds for its decisions, when ruling.

"The Court of Appeal, making use of the ambiguity of the standards
of appeals processing, has repeatedly showed arbitrariness while
applying the law, consequently we are not aware of even one judicial
act where the decision of processing an appeal has been grounded. Many
cases of rejecting the appeals are known, whereas a similar appeal
submitted by another entity has been processed. Even if we exclude
the hypothesis of existence of corruption in the phase of the appeal
process, then the double standards applied by the Court of Appeal at
least do not dispel the doubts of those people who are inclined to
think that corruption lies in the basis of those double approaches,"
    the protesting attorneys' statement reads.

Striking attorney Hayk Alumyan told ArmeniaNow that on Monday the
attorneys will gather and present their demands, as well as will make
some proposals, aiming to forces changes.

Last July about 200 attorneys organized a picket in front of the Court
of Appeal building. The reason for the action was the Court of Appeal
solicited to terminate the powers of a judge. The lawyers claimed
justice in Armenia is distorted to the limit that judges depend on
    the Court of Appeal.
