Baku. Victoria Dementieva - APA. The Israeli Knesset held a special
meeting on this country's recognition of the so-called "Armenian
    genocide".

APA reports quoting "Izrus" that the initiators of the discussions
are Zakhava Galyon (MERETZ party), Zeev Elkin ("Likud") and Professor
Ayeh Eldad (Ikhud Leumi). Knesset's Speaker Reuven Rivlin supported
this proposal and appointed a special plenary meeting for discussions.

In his speech, Chairman of parliamentary coalition of Likud Party
Zeev Elkin said that "the issue of recognition of tragedy of Armenian
people wasn't included in agenda over the decades. It was impossible
to change seriously this issue in recent years. Knesset must recognize
    the Armenian genocide".

MP Reuven Rivlin said that "one cannot turn the issue of tragedy of
Armenian people into the political tool for punishing Turkey. We don't
accuse modern Turkey of committing genocide and don't lay a claim to
    the Turkish government".
