IN ARMENIA MALE POLITICIANS PREVENT POLITICAL GROWTH OF THEIR FEMALE COLLEAGUES

In Armenia female politicians are regarded as just a nice background
for their charismatic male leaders, former MP Lilit Galstyan told
    journalists on Tuesday.

"In Armenia there is a culture of stud politicians - rich and strong
males - with women left no hope for high positions. Democracy and
high female representation in the parliament have nothing to do with
    the Armenian reality," Galstyan said.

Former MP Larisa Alaverdyan disagreed with Galstyan. She believes
that everything depends on a woman's ambition and motivation.

"Some people in Armenia still believe that female politicians have no
family and are not normal, but the fact is that today only women are
able to improve the hard social-economic conditions we are living in,"
    Alaverdyan said.

The Electoral Code of Armenia says that 20% of a party's ticket should
be women. But the fact is that the new parliament has just 14 female
members - just 10.7% of all MPs.
