YEREVAN. - Acceleration of the Karabakh conflict settlement supposes
preparing the societies of Armenia and Azerbaijan for peace, ruling
Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group secretary
Hovhannes Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
"Armenia's approaches have not changed. We are ready to talk, to run
dialogue, to discuss ways of the conflict settlement. Nagorno-Karabakh
within any status cannot be a part of Azerbaijan. It should have land
connection with Armenia. It is a topic for discussion, the Armenian
side is always ready for talks," he stressed.
As for Azerbaijan's approaches and the government's actions, Sahakyan
said that they are not constructive.
"The Azerbaijani side all the time instigates tension on the border,
voices threats, authorities impose hatred towards Armenians. All this
does not contribute to strengthening of confidence," the MP said.
Sahakyan considers the world community, on behalf of the OSCE
Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the interested parties, should attach
more attention to prevent escalation of the conflict, resumption of
hostilities and belligerence by Baku.
As the agency has informed earlier, Russian, the U.S. and French
presidents Vladimir Putin, Barack Obama and Francois Hollande
had released a joint statement, calling the sides to accelerate
reaching agreement on the Basic Principles for a settlement of the
Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict.
