"MARMARA": GALUST GYULBEKYAN'S HOUSE IN TURKEY WILL BE RECONSTRUCTED INTO A TAVERN

The house of the outstanding businessman of the Armenian origin, the
greatest oil tycoon of the middle of the XX century, situated in the
micro region of Talas of the Turkish city Kesariya, is planned to
be reconstructed into a tavern. News agency "News-Armenia" informs
about this referring to the daily Armenian newspaper "Marmara".
According to the information 200 years old historic building, one
floor of which has already been destroyed, today is the possession
of Nidzhib Dincher, who bought it from Istanbulyan doctor.
Based on the information given in the newspaper, Dincher intends
to make a huge investment on the reconstruction of the house into
a tavern. "He plans to call it "Gyulbenkyan Tavern"~T, is noted in
the newspaper.
Kesariya, a city situated in the central part of present Turkey,
used to be a residence for Cappadocian kings. It was joined to the
Ottoman Empire in 1915. Before the Armenian genocide the city was
mainly inhabited by the Armenians. According to the data of 1813,
the Armenians composed more than 60% of the population of the city
and there used to be 34 Armenian villages in its suburbs. They all
were exterminated or expelled during the genocide. Today few Armenians
live in Kesariya.
At the beginning of the XX century Galust Gyulbekyan played an active
role in the organization of the world oil product, supporting large
companies of the world to optimize the extraction. The result of his
work was the integration of the Danish and British oil companies
into Royal Dutch Shell. For accomplishing this work, he gained 5%
shares of the new company.
Furthermore, Gyulbekyan partook in the creation of other oil companies
(Turkish Petroleum Company, Iraq Petroleum Company...), gaining 5% of
the shares of these companies, thus he obtained the nickname "Mr. 5%".
