At the invitation of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, today
the President of the Republic of Austria Heinz Fischer has arrived in
Armenia on an official visit, accompanied by his spouse Marget Fischer.
Within the frames of the visit, the President of Austria will have
meetings with President Serzh Sargsyan, His Holiness Catholicos of
All Armenians Garegin II, National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamian
and Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
The Presidents of Armenia and Austria will participate in the
Armenian-Austrian Business Forum.
Before his visit to Armenia, the Austrian president gave an exclusive
interview to Hayastani Hanrapetutyun [The Republic of Armenia] Daily.
Touching upon the recent ceasefire violation cases on the
Armenian-Azerbaijani border and on the line of contact between
Azerbaijan and Karabakh, Fischer said Austria is greatly concerned
over the continuation of the incidents on the line of contact. The
withdrawal of snipers and establishment of an investigation mechanism
for incidents on the line of contact are necessary to draw nearer to
the settlement of the conflict. Heinz Fischer had also expressed his
regret that the ratification of the two protocols on the normalization
of the relations between Armenia and Turkey is stopped.
