The Karabakh conflict can be resolved only by means of peace
negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group, Austrian President Heinz
Fischer said at today's joint press conference with Armenian President
Serzh Sargsyan.
Fischer thinks that such a serious problem concerning the destiny of
thousands of people cannot be resolved by means of force.
Consequently, the OSCE Minsk Group should speed up efforts to resolve
the conflict, he said. Fischer added that Russia, France and the United
States have enough experience, knowledge and potential to resolve the
problem, but patience is needed, because it is a complicated conflict,
in which each part has its own point of view.
The President of Austria pointed out that he familiarized himself
with Azerbaijan's viewpoint on the Karabakh conflict 6 months ago,
during his visit to Baku. He is also aware of Turkey's point of view
and now he knows Armenia's stance on the issue, which gives him an
opportunity to impartially assess the Karabakh peace process. Fischer
also stressed that it is necessary to withdraw the snipers from the
line of contact as soon as possible.
