ARMENIA IS GRATEFUL TO AUSTRIA FOR THE ASSISTANCE IN DIFFICULT TIMES

YEREVAN, JUNE 26, ARMENPRESS: Austria wants to promote cultural
cooperation with Armenia. Austrian President Heinz Fischer came forth
with the statement at the course of the joint press conferrence.
'~RArmenia has more than two millennium history. The first country
that adopted Christianity as a state religion, which paved the way
for the development of Christianity throughout the world'~R Heinz
Fischer noted.
Austrian President also presented his country's century dated history,
reminding Vienne was originally a township in the Roman Empire,
which later developed and turned into a capital, Armenpress reports.
In his turn President Sargsyan thanked Austrian President for the
assistance of Austrian Government during 1988 earthquake, as well
as for the establishment of Austrian Children's Hospital and the
construction of Austrian district in Gyumry.
'~R We are also grateful for the launch of development programs
under the auspices of Austria, in the context of which the signing
of intergovernmental agreement of development programs. Armenia
appreciates the support and attention shown towards Armenian community
and Armenian cultural heritage in the territory of the country,
including the issue of maintenance of Mkhitarist Congregation in
Vienna, "said the President.
