In view of Armenia's serious democratic and demographical problems,
the leader of the National Self-Determination Union party Paruyr
Hayrikyan is going to run for presidency in 2013.
During a press-conference on Tuesday he said that today Armenia needs
70% rather 7% economic growth.
"Our per capita GDP is just $2,000 against an average of $8,000 in
Europe. In order to reach their level, we need at least 50% economic
growth, while the 7% growth planned by the Government means that we
will remain among the poorest nations," Hayrikyan said.
According to Armenia's National Statistical Service, in 2011 the
country's per capita GDP was $3,000 (9.1% more than a year before).
The Government's program 2012-2017 stipulates 5-7% economic growth.
