AZERBAIJANI STRATEGIC STUDIES CENTER: ARMENIA LAGS BEHIND IN DEVELOPMENT

A great deal has occurred in the South Caucasus over the past 20
years. There have been successful events, conflicts. The international
and regional projects have been implemented, head of the Center for
Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijani President Farhad Mammadov
    told media today.

"The purpose of the international conference "Joint efforts for
the future of the Caucasus: the past 20 years and their lessons"
is an analysis of the processes occurring in the South Caucasus in
this period," he said. "Proceeding from the name of the conference,
we should learn from these processes and discuss the formation of
    views on the future."

The international conference "Joint efforts for the future of the
Caucasus: lessons of the past 20 years" in Baku today was organized
jointly by the Centre for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijani
President, Caucasus International and Turkish Policy Quarterly
    magazines.

The experts representing the countries of South Caucasus and Turkey
    attend the conference.

The successful development of the two South Caucasus countries -
Azerbaijan and Georgia has become a reality. They have resources and
opportunities to form the views on the future. However, one republic
remains in isolation because of its occupation policy. It is also
away from international projects, he said.

"Today we will discuss it," he added. "We want to demonstrate to the
international community that Armenia has got into such a position
because of its occupation policy. If it wants to get out of it, it
must abandon its policy. We are ready to live together. The highest
status within Azerbaijan may be assigned to Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia
can flourish and develop after the conflict is resolved."
