PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia should be on the alert; Azerbaijan signed
a military treaty with Israel, and this affects Armenia both directly
and indirectly, political scientist Sergey Shakaryants said.
"No matter what this weapon targets, Iran or the national minorities
in Azerbaijan. We have no guarantees that this weapon will not aim
Armenia tomorrow," he told a press conference in Yerevan.
"We are missing one important thing. If Azerbaijan aims to use arms
against Iran, our national interests will suffer anyway; furthermore,
our state borders will be jeopardized," the expert noted.
Shakaryants voiced concern over lack of reaction by Armenian
politicians to the active arming of their key enemy, who still hope
for a peace settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
Armenian side must enhance its weaponry to demonstrate to the rival
that "we are not powerless and can repulse them", the expert said.
