The head of Kajaran village of Syunik marz Vardan Atayan has written
an open letter to President Serzh Sargsyan. The reason is the
government's decision, according to which the agricultural lands of
several villages, including Kajaran village of Syunik marz will be
given to Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine for the operation of the
open mine and for the enhancement of the poisonous waste dumps.
The village head informs that before taking the decision, no one has
consulted with the residents and they learnt about the decision by
chance. Vardan Atayan thinks that people pass misleading information
on the issue to the president and unnecessarily manipulate his name.
"What fate is expected for Kajaran?" The local residents have posed
this question to the prime minister who visited Kajaran on March 3.
Tigran Sargsyan hasn't said anything giving hope that the government's
decision will be annulled. He, according to the letter, has rather
spoken about destroying the village and using it for the mining
industry.
"By the way, the prime minister who has visited Kajaran village twice
since September 2011, didn't wish to enter the village at least once,
which is 3km away from the town of Kajaran and to speak with the
villagers who have been in uncertainty for a long time", the open
letter of Vardan Atayan addressed to the president says.
The residents of Kajaran hope that the president will annul the
government's decision and will contribute to the strengthening of
the village of Kajaran with practical steps.
