PARIS. - Armenians in France are grateful to the French President
Nikolas Sarkozy for his Wednesday's intentions to criminalize denial
of the Armenian Genocide in France by removing all the obstacles, the
statement by the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations in
France published in Nouvelles dArménie reads.
`The French President stated at the meeting with the representatives
of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations in France on
Wednesday that he is ready to criminalize denial the Armenian
Genocide, taking into account the remarks by the Constitutional
Council.
The second version should be more unique, effective and guarantee
discretion of the judges. Sarkozy will establish a committee, which
will include representatives of the Armenian community at the
Parliament to form and submit a new bill during Sarkozy's next office,
in case he is elected the president.
Regretting for the fact that the bill criminalizing denial of the
Armenian Genocide was not passed during Sarkozy's current office, the
Council is grateful to the President for his willingness to implement
it and welcome his commitment to the case,' the statement reads.
