Azerbaijan Defense Minister Safar Abiyev made statements during his
official visit to Tehran this week on the willingness to liberate
the occupied territories of Azerbaijan by military means, which did
not go unnoticed in Washington.
"The Karabakh conflict has no military solution. We urge the parties
to abandon the provocative rhetoric of war and prepare their peoples
for peace, not war,"the U.S. State Department said in a statement.
In addition, State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland said at a
briefing in Washington that "the U.S. will continue assisting the
parties in the search for lasting peace, as co-chair of OSCE Minsk
Group."
Commenting on the recent arrests of Iranian agents who had been
preparing attacks against Israel and U.S. offices in Baku, she noted
that Washington was informed of this, but the details of the case were
still unknown and are being investigated by the U.S. Embassy in Baku.
