Today, an agreement has been signed between the Government and Valex
Group on putting the Kashen mine (Martakert region) into operation.
During the presentation of the project, which marks a new stage in the
mining sphere, Prime Minister Ara Harutyunian noted the start of the
greatest economic program of the last decade in the NKR, the successful
implementation of which would lead to major tax incomes and solution
of some social issues. Mr. Harutyunian emphasized that mining could
become one of the traditional economic branches in Artsakh and that
the Government allocated corresponding means for comprehensive study
of the bosoms. Valex Group leader V. Mezhlumian, Base Metals CJSC
Executive Director Mkrtumian and senior specialists of the company
presented the program and gave some specifications on the prospects
of the new mine's operation and the main tasks, which would allow to
get good industrial indexes and to avoid environmental disasters. The
operation of the mine is scheduled to start until 2015, and mainly
copper and molybdenum will be produced. According to the program,
about 17 million tons of ore will be processed during the coming
10 years. Valex Group will make investments in about $80 million
in Kashen.
NKR Government members and corresponding specialists of the sphere
attended the presentation of the program.
