WE SHOULD HAVE A HOLIDAY DEDICATED TO ARMENIAN POETRY: CHAIRMAN OF WRITERS UNION OF ARMENIA

    MARCH 21, 2012
    YEREVAN

YEREVAN, MARCH 21, ARMENPRESS: Every year on 21 March UNESCO
celebrates the World Poetry Day. A decision to proclaim 21 March as
World Poetry Day was adopted during the UNESCO"s 30th session held in
    Paris in 1999.

Chairman of Writers Union of Armenia Levon Ananyan said during a
literary event in the union that poetry has always played an important
role in Armenian literature, according to Armenpress.

"That we celebrate the World Poetry Day in Armenia means we appraise
our poetry," said Levon Ananyan. He noted Writers Union of Armenia has
joined "World Poetry" movement, which is a European initiative.

Levon Ananyan stressed that next to international holidays, the
national poetry should have its day in the Armenian calendar.

"National poetry deserves that right and I see that perspective,"
Chairman of the Writers Union of Armenia added.
