PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA HIGHLIGHTS ROLE OF ARMENIAN COMMUNITY IN ARMENIA-SINGAPORE RELATIONS

YEREVAN, MARCH 28, ARMENPRESS: On March 28 in frame of his state
visit to Singapore President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan participated
in a state dinner given by President of Singapore Tony Tan Keng Yam.
As president"s press service told Armenpress, Serzh Sargsyan first
expressed gratitude to the President of Singapore and country"s
leadership for warm hospitability, and then referred to the history
of traditional relations of Armenia and Singapore, the present and
perspectives. President Serzh Sargsyan also spoke of the friendly
ties of the two people dating back to centuries.
He expressed gratitude to the government of Singapore for the high
attention paid to the historical heritage of the Armenian community.
"I think the Armenian community in Singapore, though small, plays
a special role in the country"s economic, civil and cultural life
promoting development of Armenian-Singaporean relations," said the
President of Armenia.
The visit of first prime minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew to
Armenia in 2009 marked a new quality round in relations of Armenia
and Singapore. Serzh Sargsyan noted the current state visit of the
president of Armenia is the first in the history of the two countries
at a level of presidents, which comes to confirm the maturity of
Armenia-Singapore inter-state relations. The President said he
is impressed by Singapore"s achievements and by the meetings with
President Tony Tan Keng Yam and PM Lee Kuan Yew.
"This year we mark the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic
relations between our countries. I think this obliges us to do
everything possible so that our people know each other better and our
relations are elevated to a new quality level," said Serzh Sargsyan.
