Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Co. plans to improve the landing gear on the
entire fleet of Sukhoi Superjet 100s following two incidents of
Aeroflot-operated SSJ100s that revealed broken pods on the actuator
of the landing gear bay door.
The first incident took place in Minsk in December 2011. On March 16,
another Aeroflot SSJ100 flying from Moscow to Astrakhan was forced to
return to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport for the same reason. According
to the spokesperson of United Aircraft Corp., Sukhoi's parent, these
aircraft have been repaired. The airframer planned to install the
reinforced actuator rods on all other aircraft of this type by March
25 without taking them out of operation.
The other four SSJ100s operated by Aeroflot will be repaired at the
airline's home base at Sheremetyevo. Armenian carrier Armavia's sole
aircraft will be repaired in Yerevan, Armenia.
"The designer and maker of the SSJ100 landing gear,
Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, will take part in these activities," said a
UAC representative, adding that this defect did not show itself during
the aircraft's testing, and it does not threaten passenger safety.
