PanARMENIAN.Net - Parliamentary diplomacy has become much active over
the past 10 years worldwide, member of ARF Dashnaktsutyun Bureau,
head of Dashnaktsutyun's parliamentary group in the Armenian National
Assembly Vahan Hovhannisyan said.
Speaking at the opening of Dashnaktsutyun's Hai Dat Committee 4th forum
in Yerevan, Hovhannisyan stated that this is first of all caused by
the collapse of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia and increased number
of parliaments.
Secondly, democratic processes result in increased role of parliaments,
and MPs begin to have more influence on policy-making.
Hovhannisyan mentioned that despite short history of parliamentary
diplomacy, Armenian delegations are already represented in
Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe, OSCE, NATO,
Euronest, CIS, etc.
Dashnaktsutyun member stated with regret that most Armenian delegations
are absolutely incompetent in diplomacy, due to which Armenian policy
is very often damaged by blunders of both the Foreign Ministry and
parliamentary delegations.
"Despite this, Hai Dat office will further continue its activity in
the key aspect of foreign policy, namely the struggle for international
recognition of Armenian Genocide," Hovhannisyan said.
