STEPANAKERT AIRPORT IS SCHEDULED TO WORK IN JUNE -JULY

YEREVAN, MARCH 30, ARMENPRESS. Stepanakert airport is fully ready
for operating; all the equipment and material base needed are acquired.
Dmitry Adbashyan head of Chief Department of Civil Aviation, affiliated
to NK Government, told Armenpress that currently they are engaged in
personnel certification work.
""Special order is functioning at aviation; a certified specialist
is working with certified equipments, in certified work," Adbashyan
stressed.
According to Department head, certification process will last for
two-three weeks and will not hinder the working process. Adbashyan
stated that currently they are engaged in acquisition of aircraft. He
voiced hope that in June - July, they will be able to implement
the first flight. Before that technical staff and pilots need to
pass training. In that context Civil Aviation Department signed
contracts with training centers. Department head stated that there
are two types of training courses; the first course lasting for ninety
days, the second twenty one -day-training course stipulated only for
experienced pilots. The pilots are going to take their training courses
in Vilnius. Newly built airport staff consists of Armenian specialists.
Stepanakert Airport was built in 1974.During Artsakh liberation war
it served for military purposes. In 1992 after Berdzor liberation
the airport was paralyzed.
In 2008 the construction of the main building of new airport started.
The airport resembles an eagle stretching its wings. The airport
inauguration was scheduled for 2011.
