SARKOZY TO RECONFIRM HIS COMMITMENT TO CRIMINALIZE DENIAL OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

YEREVAN, MAY 3, ARMENPRESS: President of France Nicolas Sarkozy
reconfirmed his commitment to represent new bill criminalizing the
denial of Armenian genocide. Armenpress reports citing Nouvelles
d'Armenie, that about this was mentioned in the letter addressed
to co-chairs of coordinating council of Armenian organizations in
France Aleqsis Govchiyan and Ara Toranyan. "On April 24 everybody
rose in memory of Armenian Genocide's 97-th anniversary. I was glad
to be near my Armenian compatriots from France. Armenian genocide
survivors became the devoted sons of our country and enriched our
culture" in the letter mentioned Nicolas Sarkozy.
At the same time president of France assured that the new bill
criminalizing the denial of Armenian genocide would be represented to
parliament in June 2012. "Be sure that I will continue my struggle
on behalf of France in order the truth and justice be recognized"
stressed French President.
The bill criminalizing the denial of genocides recognized by France
was authored by French National Assembly deputy Valery Buaie, was
accepted by both chambers of parliament, but on February 28 the
Constitutional Council of France recognized it as unconstitutional.
Then declaration of Ministry of Justice of France was followed
according to which on the instruction of the President of France new
bill would be worked out.
