The parliamentary election took an interesting turn in some regions.
Prosperous Armenia won the election there. One of these regions is
Shirak where four of three winning majority candidates are from PA,
while the Republican Party was only 3000 votes ahead of PA, and
compared with the previous election the RPA result improved by 12,
while PA almost twice as much.
The governor of Shirak Ashot Giziryan and the mayor of Gyumri Vardan
Ghukasyan who were unable to ensure the victory of Republican Arman
Sahakyan may have to pay a high price for it. He was defeated by
Martun Grigoryan of PA, the representative of the clan which is in
tough rivalry with Gyumri mayor Vardan Ghukasyan's clan.
And now Vardan Ghukasyan's comments on the result of the Republican
Party in Shirak region to news.am are interesting. "You know very
well how it happened, you all know. We were weak, we lost... We'll
live and see what the reason was, what happened, why... What do you
think, was it their merit or something else?" Vardan Ghukasyan said.
This comment is more interesting in the context of another statement
by Ghukasyan immediately after the murder of his daughter's fiancee
a few weeks ago. Ghukasyan hinted that the murder was planned by the
supporters of Martun Grigoryan of PA.
Interestingly, before the investigation would reveal anything, the
chief of police Vova Gasparyan announced that the political motive
is ruled out.
Now Vardan Ghukasyan says they were weak so they lost. Whom and what
does he mean? Was it the lack of courage of the RPA leadership to
notice the political motive of the murder and use this circumstance
for a political purpose?
What is the mayor of Gyumri hinting? Or is he simply trying to ensure
his further stay in his post by such hints considering the mayoral
election this September in which Vardan Ghukasyan may not be allowed
to run due to the loss of the RPA? Or is Vardan Ghukasyan trying to
get approval for his further mayoral ambitions on the condition of
stopping his hints in return for it?
