Elections cannot be considered free in case election bribes are being
distributed, Stepan Grigoryan, political scientist, told the reporters
on Thursday, commenting on the May 6 election process.
'Only free elections will save the country, but these elections were
not so. Large amount of bribes have been distributed,' he said.
Stepan Grigoryan stressed that the Armenian Revolutionary
Federation-Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) will remain in the opposition,
while the Heritage party has not behaved like an opposition as it
has conceded its votes to the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
'Heritage did not behave itself like an opposition force and received
few votes. As to the ARF-D, I regret that it has gathered so few
votes as it is a real ideological force,' Stepan Grigoryan said.
Asked how the new parliament will differ from the previous one,
Grigoryan said: 'There will be no big difference between the previous
and the new parliament. I think the Armenian National Congress
(ANC) will assume the role of the Heritage party. The parliament's
polarization will strengthen in case the Republican party and the
Prosperous Armenia form a coalition,' Stepan Grigoryan stressed.
