Paris, May 11. (BNA) - The new French President Francois Hollande
last night a telephone call from the Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyib Erdogan, marking his election.
Erdogan congratulated President Holland, expressing hope that a
"new era" in the Turkish-French relations will be ushered.
It is to be noted that Turkey froze political and military relations
with France in retaliation for the approval by the French parliament's
lower chamber of a measure that makes it a crime to deny genocide
against Armenians a century ago.
The Turkish government also recalled its ambassador from Paris
for consultations, canceled a joint meeting of economy and trade
ministers in January, and halted all programmes for training and
cultural affairs.
