YOUNG MAN HAVING RAPED 83-YEAR-OLD WOMAN MAY GET SHORTER SENTENCE IN ARMENIA

IJEVAN. - A 26-year-old Aren Sarukhanyan having raped and beaten
83-year-old woman in October 2011 in Armenia's Tavush Region was
sentenced to 5 year and 5 months imprisonment due to expedited trial.
However, he appealed to the Court of Appeals and, according to his
lawyer, the First Instance Court will cast a new verdict.
As Armenian News-NEWS.am has earlier informed, Sarukhanyan was
sentenced to 5.5 years in jail. He has confessed the guilt, at the
same time claiming the punishment is too strict and appealed hoping
to get shorter punishment.
