Why should Armenia need any parties if the political processes almost
do not work and it is necessary to find new approaches to power
formation so that each person could have a right to self-expression?
Analyst Stepan Danielyan asked this rhetoric question at the May 16
press conference in Yerevan.
"Unfortunately, the Armenian authorities have run their course and
one should not expect any cardinal changes from their policy", he said.
One can see no visible differences between the staffs of both the
ruling and the opposition parties, as one or two people determined the
lists at the parliamentary elections and the candidates were elected
by means of voting in none of the parties. This is the main problem
of the Armenian society, he said.
According to Danielyan, the only progress fixed during the May 6
parliamentary elections is that all the parties have received a right
to free expression. He thinks that the May 6 parliamentary elections
have been the best elections in Armenia since 1991.
When speaking about a possible coalition, Danielyan said that the
Prosperous Armenia Party is the probable and expected ally of the
Republican Party of Armenia, and the key goal of the incumbent power
is to advance a joint presidential nominee with the PAP. Danielyan
did not rule out the ex-president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan's
participation in the forthcoming presidential elections.
