EU PREPARES PROPOSALS FOR CONFIDENCE-BUILDING MEASURES BETWEEN KARABAKH CONFLICTING PARTIES

EU has prepared a package of proposals to strengthen
confidence-building measures between the parties to the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan
Roland Kobia said on Thursday.
"The sides have not accepted the proposals yet. I hope they will accept
these proposals in the near future and show their real commitment to
solve the problem," APA agency quotes Kobia.
The envoy said EU wants to strengthen its support for peaceful
settlement. The evidence thereof is appointment of Philippe Lefort
as EU Special Representative on the region. He also has a mandate to
on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"These proposals are being negotiated with Armenia and Azerbaijan.
This is a long-standing conflict and people die in the contact line
between the troops. We support the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group,
but alongside with the official negotiations, it is important to
restore mutual confidence between the people too," he added.
