YEREVAN.- The number of HIV-infected in Armenia increased dramatically
over the recent four years.
Only 71 cases were registered during four months of 2012, head of Real
World Real People NGO Hovhannes Madoyan told journalists on Friday.
However, the situation in Armenia is more favorable as compared with
other states. Armenia is located in the region where the pace of HIV
infection development is growing because of Russia and Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in U.S. and Europe, even in Latin America, the growth of
HIV cases has been reduced due to undertaken measures.
Expert on gender issues Anush Hakobyan said 23 HIV-infected children
are presently undergoing treatment in Armenia.
According to official data, 1226 HIV infection cases were registered
in Armenia from 1988 to April 30, 2012.
