US Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro was somewhat exaggerating
when he said that the United States has already finalized its plan to
attack Iran's nuclear facilities and is ready to realize it. It was
just one more attempt to pressure Iran before the Baghdad meeting,
expert on Iran Rudik Yaralyan told journalists on Friday.
Many people in the US administration would prefer to solve this problem
diplomatically, especially considering the moods inside the United
States and the growing number of Americans urging their authorities
to focus on domestic problems.
Yaralyan said that the Azeris' growing intolerance towards Iran should
put the Iranians on the alert. No coincidence that the latter are
reinforcing their borders with Azerbaijan.
Yaralyan believes that an invasion in Iran may trigger a new war in
Nagorno-Karabakh. "The Azeris will hardly miss a chance to attack
Nagorno-Karabakh, but it will be hard for them to fight on two fronts
at one and the same time," the expert said.
Another expert on Iran Armen Israelyan said that Azerbaijan's
cooperation with Israel should bother not only Armenia but the whole
region. He believes that the West would rather undermine Iran's
economy than start a war against it.
