Azerbaijan is interested in more active involvement of NATO in the
Karabakh and other conflicts in the South Caucasus. NATO does not show
activity and the political will to intervene in the Nagorno-Karabakh
and Georgian-Abkhazian conflicts in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijani
Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Chief
Ali Hasanov said at a press-conference on May 21.
He said that today Azerbaijan expects a lot from NATO, the OSCE and
other organizations with which it cooperates.
"In particular, Azerbaijan expects a lot from those organizations
which have the actual power and influence to ensure implementation
of the UN resolutions. But today there is no real result in the
resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh,
because Armenia still continues its destructive position and does not
liberate the occupied territories. Today a constructive position on the
establishment of peace in Nagorno-Karabakh is not being demonstrated,"
Hasanov said.
He did not forget to slightly threaten NATO recalling that it is within
national interests of Azerbaijan to join the Non-Aligned Movement.
"But unchangeable political course is not a Quran dogma and no one can
guarantee that the course will not change. It may be changed if the
Azerbaijani people and the forces defining the people's will adopt
a relevant decision," Hasanov said.
To recall, the above 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council were
adopted in various periods of time provide for implementation of
certain measures not only by Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia, but also
by Azerbaijan. Among the given measures is withdrawal of forces,
return of refugees, ceasefire etc. Azerbaijan has not fulfilled any
of the resolutions yet.
