AZERI PROFESSOR CALLS FOR OPENING ARMENIA-TURKEY BORDER

The border between Turkey and Armenia has to open by all means,
an ethnic Azerbaijani professor of the Istanbul University has said.
In an interview with the Turkiye newspaper, Profoessor Kamil Veli
Nerimanoglu spoke of the Turkish products on the Armenian market,
noting that keeping the border close border makes absolutely no sense
in such circumstances.
The scholar, who has been residing in Turkey for many years, has
several papers devoted to the Armenian Genocide.
He told the Turkish paper that a close border does not prevent the
Armenian citizens from travelling to Turkey through Georgia or Iran.
Nerimanoglu said that 100,000 illegal Armenian immigrants currently
reside and work in the country.
"The Armenian markets and stores are full of Turkish products, so
keeping the border close in such circumstances does not make any
sense. Besides, the opening of the border will have a positive impact.
The Armenian nation will no longer turn an evil eye towards us,
realizing that bygones will be bygones," he added.
The professor further slammed Azerbaijan's ruling regime. According
to him, the Aliyev clan is increasing pressures against the opposition
in an attempt to retain power at all costs.
"The opposition has been banned from leaving the country; some of
[the opposition figures] are even under home arrest. How long can a
state like that remain steady? A popular movement can break out at
any moment. The oil proceeds are not being used to the benefit of
the people," he said, characterizing the Azerbaijani authorities'
belligerent statement sas attempts to silence the opposition and
strengthen the ruling clan.
