PanARMENIAN.Net - The head of RA NAS Oriental Studies Institute said
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan made a right decision, having
refused to attend Chicago-hosted summit. At news conference, Ruben
Safrastyan characterized the decision as logical, considering the
summit adopted a declaration which stressed the prevalence of the
countries' territorial integrity.
"The statement, clearly, aimed to support Moldova and Georgia; however,
representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan couldn't fail to take it
into consideration. Besides, NATO statement runs counter to OSCE Minsk
Group principles for Karabakh settlement, which also explains President
Sargsyan's refusal to attend the summit," the expert explained.
On May 20-21, Chicago hosted a NATO summit, with current situation in
Afghanistan and the country's future after withdrawal of NATO forces
by 2014 in the focus of the meeting.
