The statement of the Student Council of Yerevan State University.
"We announce that the latest report of the US State Department on
Armenia is a matter of concern for every Armenian. We, the studentship
of Yerevan State University, being the representatives of the largest
youth organization of the Republic of Armenia, express our concern
regarding the statement of the US State Department. We particularly
stress on the "first" point of the report, which refers to the Republic
of Nagorno Karabakh.
We think that such important documents, as the report of the US
State Department is, should be unbiased and should not contain any
distortions. Nagorno Karabakh has never been a part of Azerbaijan,
except for the Soviet era. Hence, there is no legal basis for
considering the Nagorno Karabakh as Azerbaijani territory. Moreover,
the report shows that the security zone, surrounding the NKR, is
presented as Azerbaijani territory, which is occupied by the Armenian
forces. This fact, of course, also states about the biased attitude.
Taking into consideration the above mentioned circumstances, we
announce that we are going to preserve our historical heritage and
demand from the international bodies on the impartial assessment for
the ongoing events," reads the statement.
