On May 24, the Institute of CIS States held round-table discussions
in Moscow chaired by the Institute's Director Konstantin Zatulin. The
topic of the round table was "The Domestic and Foreign Threats for
the Caucasus against the Background of the Crisis in the Middle East".
Leading Russian experts on the region, representatives of the Embassies
of Nagorno-Karabakh, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Abkhazia participated in
the round table.
Armenpress reports that the NKR was represented at the round table
by Advisers to the NKR Foreign Minister Ruben Zargarian and Arsen
Melik-Shakhnazarian. In his speech, Mr. Zargarian made an analysis
of the threats by Turkey and the conflicts it is provoking towards
the region's states, as well as the territorial claims of Azerbaijan
against all its neighbors and official Baku's denial of the norms
of international law. The speaker substantiated NKR's role and
significance in the establishment of peace and stability in the
Eastern Mediterranean region, exposed the illegal attempts of the
Baku administration to cast doubt on NKR's sovereignty and territorial
integrity. It was emphasized that the delay of NKR's final recognition
seriously complicated the inter-state relations; it was stated that
international law imperatively demanded NKR's recognition. Ruben
Zargarian presented the NKR position on the international-legal
settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict, which was actively
supported by all the participants of the round table.
The propagandistic attempts of the representative of the Azerbaijani
Embassy to deny the existence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were
exposed by many participants of the forum who emphasized in their
speeches there are six subjects of international law in the South
Caucasus and NKR was one of the most established and stable states
in the region.
