The only way to settle Armenia-Turkey relations, is to ratify and
implement the Armenian-Turkish protocols, spokesman for the Foreign
Affairs Ministry Tigran Balayan told Tert.am, commenting on the
statement of the President of Turkey Abdullah Gul about the wide-scale
works for the normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations.
According to Turkish haber7 web site, Turkish president said he does
not consider the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish
relations completely exhausted. `We are carrying out a wide-scale work
and have given assignments to state and civil organizations,' he said.
Asked whether Gul's statement speaks of new contacts, new initiatives,
member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc
Vladimir Karapetyan said this statement should first of all be either
confirmed or refuted by the Armenia's Foreign Ministry explaining
whether there are contacts or not.
Learning about the response of the ministry's spokesman, Karapetyan
said, `We have many times stressed that the protocols are quite
disputable and the existence of a clause on setting a committee of
historians, does not stem from Armenia's interests and I am concerned
with such comment of the Ministry,' Vladimir Karapetyan said.
