Exports of cut diamonds from Armenia were down 61.5% year-on-year in
the first nine months of 2012 at 104,300 carats, a report from the
country's Customs Service says.
Exports in value were down to $57.8 million in the 9M, from $85.9
million in the same period of last year.
The country's Economics Ministry told Interfax that exports fell due
to a drop in world demand for gemstones.
Armenia imports rough diamonds and exports cut and polished diamonds
mainly to Europe, the United States, and Russia. The country imports
half its diamonds from Russia's Alrosa.
