For the first time since the outbreak of events in Syria, Syrian
"MiG" warplanes bombed Damascus yesterday dropping four bombs on
Jawbar neighbourhood east of the capital while the official Syrian
television announced the "killing of Pilot Major General Abdallah
Mahmud al-Khalidi, a member of the air staff command, in Rukn-al-Din
neighbourhood by an armed terrorist group." The Local Coordination
Committees [LCC] meanwhile reported in a preliminary count that around
113 persons were killed, the majority of them in Idlib, Damascus,
and Rif Dimashq.

four bombs on the neighbourhood at the eastern edge of the capital
which is adjacent to the town of Zamalka where violent clashes were
taking place between the regular forces and opposition fighters.
Agence France Presse [AFP] reported that the sound of a strong
explosion was heard all over Damascus.
The shelling on Monday night included positions in the capital and the
locals talked about intensive air raids on the outskirts of Al-Qabun,
Zamalka, and Arabin, adding that these were the most violent since
warplanes and helicopters bombed for the first time areas supporting
the opposition in August.
The official Syrian television meanwhile announced the "killing of
Pilot Maj Gen Abdallah Mahmud al-Khalidi in Rukn-al-Din neighbourhood,

the house of a friend in the neighbourhood where the was making a
social visit."
In Rif Dimashq, the Observatory reported a raid on the town of
Duma which "caused massive damages to around 20 houses" and killed
and wounded many people. Activist Abu-Muhammad from the Revolution
Command Council in Rif Dimashq, told Al-Sharq al-Awsat that "the
situation in the town is tragic in every sense of the word. Most
hospitals and pharmacies in the town have closed their doors due to
the absence of the medical cadres and the needed medicines while the
mortar shelling is focusing on Al-Mujahidin Square and its vicinity,
Taha Mosque and its vicinity, Al-Kabir Mosque and its vicinity in
addition to the municipal area that saw terrifying damages. Mortars
are continuing to fall causing massive damages and killing dozens."
The Observatory said at least five people were killed, among them
a woman, and more than 20 wounded when the regular forces shelled
the town of Bayt Sawa while Al-Hajariyah neighbourhood in Duma was
bombed by a warplane "which caused massive damages in the area"
according to the Observatory which also reported that a large number
of people were killed and wounded. It pointed out that an artillery
bombardment targeted "a building in the medical tower that is still
under construction and which opposition fighters seized before few
days after being a centre for the regular forces during the past
months."Warplanes also bombed the towns of Arabin and Zamalka and
their vicinity in Rif Dimashq.
A video posted on "YouTube" shows the effects of the massive
destruction of a "plastics" factory in Al-Rashidiyah area in Hazzah,

among them four children, from the raids on the town of Ma'arrat
al-Nu'man which together with its vicinity are under the opposition's

accompanied by clashes at the entrances to the town and intermittent
battles around the nearby besieged Wadi al-Dayf camp.
Ahmad Qaddur, the "Sham" news network spokesman, said "most of Idlib's
areas and countryside are still coming under constant shelling by
the regular forces which carried out today (yesterday) an air raid on
the village of Dayr Sharqi in Ma'arrat al-Nu'man countryside and its
vicinity where the displaced are staying." He pointed out that "the
clashes between the Free Syrian Army [FSA] and the regime's for ces
are still continuing at the southern entrance to Ma'arrat al-Nu'man"
and added that the town of Saraqib in Idlib countryside came under
violent shelling on Monday night from the checkpoints erected east
of Ariha in the countryside too.

to launch an attack from Bani Zayd neighbourhood which they have been
controlling for some time at the Tariq Bin-Ziyad barracks in Al-Sabil
neighbourhood, according to AFP which cited local residents.
The Armenian "Yerkir" television channel reported that "gunmen from
the Syrian opposition intercepted a civilian bus that was travelling
from Aleppo to Beirut and kidnapped 10 persons, seven Armenians and
three Christian Arabs." It added that the kidnappers threatened to
kill the 10 hostages if 150 of their "colleagues" were not released

Francis, when the Jesuits Monastery in old Homs was shelled with

hospital in the neighbourhood.Syrian warplanes also raided the
oppositionists' positions in the Homs area in an attempt to lift the
siege the oppositionists have imposed on a Syrian army camp in the
area. These air raids that targeted the village of Al-Mubarakiyah
which lies 6 km from Homs and where the oppositionists are besieging
a government military position killed two oppositionists and wounded

shelling of Dayr Ba'labah neighbourhood after Monday midnight in an
attempt to storm it at the same time as clashes broke out between
