The 'We are Masters of this City' civil initiative issued a statement
to inform the public that, on October 11, it sent Yerevan Mayor
Taron Margaryan a 20-page package of proposals to put an end to the
violations in Yerevan gardens.
The package was sent out to Armenia's mass media outlets.
On November 6, the civil initiative received a lukewarm response from
the Yerevan Municipality.
The statement indicates that the document also listed the collapsed
building at 20 Khanjyan Str.
The civil initiative views the response as evidence of dereliction
on the Yerevan Municipality's part.
The civil initiative indicates that local authorities go on issuing
illegal permits for construction in different public areas of Yerevan.
"The Yerevan Municipality is a local government body financed by
taxpayers, which must be accountable to Yerevan residents and to the
public," says the statement.
