The Armenian community of Belgian City of Gent organized an event
to protect Vardan Sargsyan and his family, Armenian News-NEWS.am was
informed by the Belgian Armenian community member. According to our
source, the authorities of Belgium decided to deport Vardan Sargsyan,
his wife and two underage children.
"Vardan lives in Gent for about 13 years. He was started a family
here and has two kids. He has a job and has never had any problems
with police. For many times he submitted applications to obtain a
legal residence permit, however, for unknown reasons, his applications
have always been rejected. Presently he and his family were moved to
the refugee camp in order to be deported," the source told Armenian
News-NEWS.am over the phone.
According to the Armenian community of Gent, the representatives of
EAK Armenian benevolent society of Belgium, sent a letter to the
King Albert II of Belgium in this regard. In addition, regarding
Sargsyan's family EAK applied to the Gent city mayor, who promised
to help as much as possible.
The Armenian community of Gent city organized a rally in front of
the city hall to protect Vardan Sargsyan and his family. The rally
enjoyed the attention of local media.
