Turkish Medical Experts: Ex-President Ozal Killed by Poisoning

    15:30 | 2012-11-10

TEHRAN (FNA)- Full investigation by four medical teams, reviewing the
results of an autopsy on former Turkish President Turgut Ozal who died
in 1993, approved that he had been poisoned.

A primary state forensic report solved the 19-year mystery surrounding
Ozal's death whose body was exhumed last month, Turkish newspaper
    'Haber Turk' reported.

The report noted that four separate medical teams, who worked
independently from each other, confirmed the primary report of the
    Turkish forensic medicine organization.

In April 1993, the Turkish media reported that Ozal had died of heart
failure, but his family believed that he had been poisoned.

According to the daily, four medical teams that were formed for final
investigation into Ozal's death after conducting necessary
investigations confirmed that the former Turkish president had
undoubtedly died with a fatal poison.

Ozal went on to dominate Turkish politics during his period as prime
minister from 1983-89. Parliament then elected him president, but
those close to him believe his reform efforts displeased some in the
    security establishment.

In 1988, while prime minister, Ozal survived an assassination attempt
    by a right-wing gunman.
