PRESIDENT: ARMENIA INTERESTED IN ENLARGEMENT OF FRENCH CAPITAL
YEREVAN, November 13. /ARKA/. Armenia is interested in enlargement
of French capital, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a news
conference on Monday after he met French President Francois Hollande
in Paris.
The Armenian president met his French counterpart as part of his
three-day official visit to France.
"We indeed want to enlarge French capital in Armenia, since today
Armenia needs this," Sargsyan was quoted by the president's press
office as saying. "Besides, this is maybe not a big, but a good
opportunity to eliminate consequences the global financial and
economic crisis."
The president also said that Armenia is proud of the fact that about
500,000 Armenians live in France and take part in development of
this country.
"They are Armenians and French people equally, they love both Armenia
and France, and we should use their potential for preserving our
friendship for ever," he said.
Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said that
160 companies with French capital function in Armenia's banking,
telecommunication, agriculture and other sectors.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, trade
turnover between the two countries amounted to $39.7 million in the
first half of this year against $50.1 million at the same period a
