32 PEOPLE DIED FROM AIDS IN ARMENIA THIS YEAR

Arshak Papoyan, Head of Epidemiological Control Department of the
National Center for AIDS Prevention, told Lragir.am that 32 people
died from AIDS in Armenia in the past 10 months, 182 new HIV cases
were reported in the same period.
1335 cases have been reported in Armenia since 1988. According to
Papoyan, 70.4% of people diagnosed with AIDS are men, 29.6% - women,
and 1.8% children.
56.2% of the patients are 25-39 years old. AIDS is mainly transmitted
sexually (56.4%) and via drug injections (34.9%) in Armenia.
The highest HIV rate is in Yerevan " 39%, the second is Shirak
marz 10.4%.
The HIV/AIDS assessment proves there are 3500 people with HIV in
Armenia.
