PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV UNLEASHES ANTI-ARMENIA TWITTER PROPAGANDA

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is filled with hatred towards
Armenia and he doesn't conceal it. Ilham Aliyev used the social network
on Tuesday 20th November to unleash a large sum of disparaging,
dishonoring and abusive tweets against neighboring Armenia. After
the twitter clash, many world leading and outstanding news sites like
Reuters, RIA Novosti, Global Post and France Press turned to the issue.

"The Armenian lobby is our main enemy and we are the main enemy for
them," posted President Aliyev from his official tweeter account. Then
he added: "Armenia is a country of no value." It is actually a colony,
an outpost run from abroad, a territory artificially created on
    ancient Azerbaijani lands."

Most of the tweets were from the speech given on 16th November at a
meeting of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, which was celebrating its
20th anniversary, according to Aliyev's official website. The sudden
broadside of tweets posted Tuesday afternoon prompted a top Armenian
lawmakers and media experts to compare the messages with Nazi German
strategy of propaganda. They consider them to be aimed at disparaging
    and humiliating Armenia.

"Like a troll, President Aliyev disparages Armenia and his words are
downright abusive. In the full text of his speech we can highlight
expressions like "there are all the freedoms in Azerbaijan - freedom
of speech, freedom of conscience, freedom of press, freedom of the
Internet." Just the type of freedom of speech and of the Internet,
presumably, that allows one to mouth off about one's nearest neighbor.

What a shame, then, that the same privilege doesn't apply if you want
to Twitter-burn closer to home," writes Global Post.

"We will continue our efforts to isolate Armenia," Aliyev said,
his Twitter page adorned in a blue sunburst with the motto "We turn
    initiatives into reality!"

President Aliev also tweeted that "The gap between Armenia and
Azerbaijan is already very large and keeps expanding day by day and
resolving that conflict is the "main focus" of Azerbaijan's foreign
policy. And by "resolving," he means "seeing the Azerbaijani flag fly
over Nagorno-Karabakh once more." Such kind of solution of the issue
is "utopian" for Azerbaijan and the gap he speaks about is called
"Nagorno-Karabakh." Armenia claims its absolute historic ownership
    of the region.

It should be mentioned that the enmity and tensions between Azerbaijan
and Armenia exist since 1990s. The conflict is centered around the
disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is populated by ethnic
Armenians and who, backed by Armenia, declared the territory an
independent republic on December 10 1991. In May 1994 Azerbaijan,
Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia signed a ceasefire, which, despite
violations by Azerbaijan, is still effective.
